Skylights
ALL THE COOL HOUSES HAVE SKYLIGHTS
How do you make a dramatic difference to a room without adding floor space? Welcome the comfort of natural light by adding a skylight to your ceiling. Skylights can transform a living space and create an open-aired welcoming feel. By day, inviting the sunlight to enter from the ceiling can help warm the room and illuminate areas of a room that are further away from the windows in your wall. By night, you can appreciate the view of the night sky, or perhaps if your customization options allow, let in some of the fresh night air. Here are a few important things to think about before getting a skylight installed:
Skylight Features: There are many things to consider when it comes to choosing a skylight. Features that support energy efficiency, water tightness, sound reduction, and wind resistance are very important to research.
Placement of Your Skylight. It is important to have a space plan or blueprint of the house before you start choosing the location of your skylight. You don’t want to get your heart set on a particular spot only to find out there are rafters in the way.
Planning Your Installation. Choose your installation time wisely. Our Budget staff can work with you to choose a time when the weather will be most cooperative. Continuous moisture during the installation process is not recommended.
Position to the Sun. It is important to consider which way the skylight will be facing. South-facing skylights will be prone to overheating a room whereas north-facing skylights will give you a soft continuous light throughout the day.
Skylight Size. Think of your skylight as an investment. You're already spending time and money to put in a skylight, so make it worthwhile to maximize the benefit of installing one. The extra cost of the glass will be worth it in the end.
